Position Overview:
My client is looking for a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Estimator/Buyer to join their team. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately estimating project costs and managing the procurement process to ensure high-quality, competitively priced materials are sourced on time. This position is crucial in helping them deliver projects on budget, maintain strong supplier relationships, and continue our commitment to sustainable construction.
The role of the Estimator/Buyer:
Responsibilities include:
- Project Estimation: Prepare accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for projects, covering materials, labour, and time from initial design through to final proposals.
- Material Takeoffs: Review drawings, plans, and specifications to produce precise take-offs, ensuring all necessary resources are accounted for.
- Budget Management: Collaborate with project teams to develop and manage budgets, ensuring adherence to cost control measures.
- Supplier & Vendor Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiate pricing, and manage lead times to ensure cost-effective procurement.
- Purchasing & Procurement: Issue purchase orders, verify material quality upon receipt, and manage inventory to keep projects on track and under budget. Analyse purchase data, producing reports and forecasts against actuals.
- Stock Management: Manage material re-order levels for stock.
- Market Analysis: Stay up-to-date on market trends, pricing changes, and new product offerings to support procurement strategies.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with project managers and architects to align estimates and purchasing plans with project needs and timelines.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in estimating, buying, or a similar role within the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of construction materials, supplier management, and cost analysis.
- Proficiency with estimating software (e.g. Bluebeam) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately.
- Excellent negotiation, organisational, and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
- Familiarity with Eque2 Construction software would be useful but not essential.
